There’s something special about that moment when you unexpectedly find the perfect flowers for your home. A bouquet that catches your eye in the store and suddenly feels like it was meant for your dining table. Maybe it matches your favourite colour palette, or it brings back a memory through its scent and shape.
With just a few simple steps, you can turn those flowers into a beautifully styled arrangement that looks professionally made.
Once you’ve chosen your favourite varieties, the next step is thinking about how they can come together in your home. Here’s a simple mental roadmap to help you get started:
The vase you choose sets the foundation for your entire arrangement.
A good rule of thumb: the wider the opening of the vase, the more flowers and greenery you’ll need to create a full, balanced look. A narrower vase, on the other hand, naturally supports a more minimal and elegant style.
Don’t feel limited by traditional choices either. Almost anything can become a vase if it holds water securely. Some quirky ideas: glass bottles, rain boots, ceramic containers, classical vases in all shapes and sizes.
In our examples, we play with different containers to show how much they can change the look of an arrangement. Cyrus Diamond in boots, Gerbera mini in glass bottles and Gerbera mini Olaf in a long, low vase.
One of the real secrets to creating an easy, everyday flower arrangement is learning how to combine colours and textures in a natural, balanced way. But how do you actually do that?
For a simple, effortless-looking bouquet, start by choosing one dominant colour. This becomes your focal point and sets the mood of the arrangement. From there, build around it by adding complementary varieties, such as greenery or plants with a different texture or shape. This contrast is what makes the bouquet feel more dynamic and professionally styled.
In our example, using carnation Arandu, we start with a strong focal colour and build the arrangement around it.
Of course, you don’t always have to play it safe. You can also take the opposite approach and work with bold contrasts. In this case, you combine strong, expressive colours. For a more contrasting and bold arrangement, you can easily work with Gerberas. The colourfulness and richness in options makes Gerberas a convenient choice.
In this example, we use a mix ofGerbera mini to create a noticeable arrangement.
Start by removing all leaves and excess foliage from the lower half of each stem. This prevents stems from getting stuck in the arrangement and keeps the water cleaner for longer.
A spiral bouquet is one of the easiest ways to create a natural, professional-looking arrangement. Begin with your greenery and filler flowers to form the base. This creates structure and gives your bouquet its shape. Then gradually add your focal flowers and line flowers, building layers as you go.
Try to keep your grip light. It should feel almost like the bouquet might fall apart while you’re building it. This loose hold allows the stems to settle naturally into a balanced spiral. A helpful tip is to try building the bouquet inside a vase first. Once it starts to take shape, carefully lift it out and hold it at the point where the stems naturally cross.
Varying the height of your stems makes a big difference when it comes to creating movement and dimension. By combining taller and shorter stems, you give the bouquet a more natural, airy feel. We've easily achieved this with Helleborus Magnificent Bells
Whether you go for bold or subtle, creating an arrangement that feels professional is easier than it looks. With just a few simple principles like spiral structure, the right vase, variation in height, and thoughtful colour choices, you can build a bouquet you’re proud of.
